The early part of the 19th century saw Chiclana’s popularity as a
holiday destination rise, as the wealthy and fashionable flocked to the
spas of Fuente Amarga, and Braque.
The major tourist development of Chiclana is very recent, however, and
has avoided the high-rise developments seen in many other areas. The driving
force was the luxury hotels and residential developments built around
the extensive beach of La Barrosa, especially close to Novo Sancti Petri.
This has become one of the most important beach and golf sites in the
south of Spain.
This resort area offers the tourist excellent sporting facilities, as
well as luxury hotels, shops, great bars and restaurants.
